Summary

The object of this work is to present to the student of medicine and the practitioner removed from the schools, a series of dissections demonstrative of the relative anatomy of the principal regions of the human body. Whatever title may most fittingly apply to a work with this intent, whether it had better be styled surgical or medical, regional, relative, descriptive, or topographical anatomy, will matter little, provided its more salient or prominent character be manifested in its own form and feature. The work, as I have designed it, will itself show that my intent has been to base the practical upon the anatomical, and to unite these wherever a mutual dependence was apparent.

For instance, adipose is defined with reference to its association with fat tissue.There are very detailed descriptions of the dissections beginning with the thoracic cavity.Although there are no illustrations, the descriptions are very detailed-much in the character of a medical student's class notes.For this reason, the book is assigned the highest grade.

Excellent
No diagrams, no images, just text saying they should be there. Useless in my studies.
It is just OK
A lot of this book was informative but, it just kept going on. Yes modern practices could use some of the information but make it a little simpler to read, understand and also while creating a e-book figure a better way to write what needs to be added...
This is a nice book, and free, but not very helpful without the images. The book is freely available for download, in a variety of formats, at the following location (www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/24440). This is a nice free supplement for your studies, but if you are serious about anatomy, I would recommend buying the Netter atlas. It is the classic.

As other reviewers have noted, the free version of "Surgical Anatomy" by Joseph Maclise posted on 's webpages is NOT illustrated. HOWEVER, there IS an illustrated version of this book freely available for download at [...] BUT, it's a 24.3 MB download versus a 1.1 MB download for the non-illustrated version. It would be nice if gave people the choice of downloading the version of their choice.
